New Sensor Delivers Precision in Shaft Displacement Measurement
In August 2024, Emerson officially launched the PR6426/010-040, a high-performance eddy current sensor engineered to measure radial and axial shaft displacement, eccentricity, and motion. With a sensitivity of 2 V/mm (50.8 mV/mil) ±1.5%, and a measuring range of ±4.0 mm (0.157”), it supports real-time diagnostic strategies in predictive maintenance systems.
A nominal air gap of 5.5 mm (0.22”) ensures consistent performance, while long-term drift stays below 0.3%, maintaining stable measurement output over extended operating periods.

It is optimized for ferromagnetic steel targets such as 42CrMo4, supports shaft diameters of ≥200 mm (7.87”), and can handle surface speeds up to 2,500 m/s (98,425 ips)—a requirement for large, fast-rotating shafts common in turbomachinery.
Its stainless steel construction and PTFE cable contribute to long service life in harsh conditions, while optional armored variants offer additional security in demanding installations.

Thermal and environmental resilience is a key strength of the PR6426/010-040. The sensor operates across -35°C to 175°C (-31°F to 347°F) and tolerates short-term temperature spikes of 200°C (392°F). The cable itself is also rated for 200°C (392°F), ensuring integrity under elevated temperatures.
Additional environmental specifications include:
Temperature zero-point error: –0.3% per 100 K (from +23°C to +100°C)
Temperature sensitivity error: <0.15% per 10 K
Pressure resistance: up to 6,500 hPa (94 psi) at the sensor head
Shock / vibration resistance: 5g @ 60 Hz at 25°C

The PR6426/010-040 ships with a 4-meter cable for the /010-040 variant and a LEMO connector, with optional armored protection for hazardous locations. The sensor is compatible with hazardous-area standards such as ATEX, IECEx, and CSA, enabling operation in explosive or classified environments when paired with approved converters and monitoring systems.
