Product FAQ
Q:We are replacing a standard, non-armored probe with this armored version (330102) in a high-vibration area where the cable was chafing. Besides the armor, are there any installation differences or precautions compared to a standard probe?
Q:For a 5-meter system using this 1.0m armored probe, we need a 4.0m extension cable. Must the extension cable also be armored to maintain system integrity or performance?
A: Yes, there are key differences with armored probes:
Minimum Bend Radius: The armored cable has a larger minimum bend radius than the standard cable. While the datasheet states a general 25.4 mm (1.0 in) minimum, the armored cable's actual minimum radius is larger due to the steel braid. Forcefully bending it too tightly can kink the armor, damaging the internal cable. Consult the specific drawing for the armored cable's bend radius.
Weight and Support: The armored cable is significantly heavier (103 g/m vs. 34 g/m for standard). Ensure the cable is properly supported along its run to avoid putting excessive weight or strain on the probe's threaded connection.
Connector Handling: The armor terminates in a ferrule near the connector. Do not use this ferrule as a pulling point; always pull on the cable jacket behind the armor termination.
Grounding: The stainless steel armor is electrically continuous with the probe case and the cable shield. Ensure it is properly grounded via the Proximitor to avoid ground loops.
A: No, the extension cable does not need to be armored for electrical or performance reasons. You can connect this armored probe to a standard (non-armored) extension cable. The electrical connection and system performance will be fine. The armor is for local mechanical protection of the probe cable in a hazardous area (e.g., inside a bearing housing, near moving parts). The extension cable, often run in protected conduit or cable trays, can be standard. You would order a standard 4.0m extension cable (e.g., 330130-040-02-00). However, if the entire run requires mechanical protection, you can order an armored extension cable (e.g., 330130-040-01-00), but it is not necessary for functionality.
